Whatever stars flow across the waters
I know that I am I — much less, much more;
Despite what masks of shadow may betray.
The theatre of dreams within the faces
Of every nameless, wandering passer-by
Flickers with secret lights most know not of
— At least those who have yet to look inside.
Do those stars see what light they each possess?
Or do they see so darkly through a glass
As not to know they are the niche of lights
Neither of the East nor of the West?
O dancing tongues of light upon light,
If Truth you have acknowledged and proclaimed
Then do not die (if you have not yet died)
Without knowing this one secret: Thyself.

    Really lovely poem on the “Know thyself and know thy Lord” theme :) With echoes of Rumi and the Qur’an thrown in.

    Ya Haqq!
